Today, Thursday, August 6, 2026, and next Sunday, August 9, mark 81 years since the United States committed two war crimes and crimes against humanity against civilian targets, while Japan (and this in no way absolves the brutal Japanese imperialism) had already entered the process of surrender.
Eighty-one years have passed, and not only has the perpetrator escaped punishment, but there are also criminals who have wanted or want to repeat the act.
From MacArthur, who attempted to drop six atomic bombs on the border between Korea and China, to the unlamented Lindsey Graham, who considered the crime in Japan a precedent to be used for committing similar genocidal crimes in our region.
The motives in both cases are the same: an attempt to terrorize those who confront and reject the domination of the Great Satan over the world. In the first case, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were primarily aimed at the Soviet Union and China. In Graham’s case, the threat was directed at all those who resist American hegemony and its instruments, starting with the colonial entity occupying Palestine.
This ominous anniversary concerns all of humanity and serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need to build an international system free of weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear weapons. While it’s true that a balance of terror and the possession of nuclear weapons by other parties might deter reckless actions, let’s remember that in 2018, ideological circles within the Pentagon proposed a theory suggesting the possibility of launching a preemptive nuclear strike against an adversary and achieving victory, thus preventing any retaliation. Britain officially joined this movement through its then-Prime Minister, Theresa May.
This course of action effectively nullified the principle of mutual deterrence and undermined all international and UN efforts, beginning in the 1970s, to reduce the arms race and usher in a safer world, one that would avert the devastating specter of nuclear war.
On that day, President Putin was asked about his opinion on this new American nuclear doctrine. He replied: “Well, in that case, we’ll go to heaven, but they won’t get the chance to see us get there.”
The issue is doubly important now that the Great Satan, under the leadership of Donald Trump and his mafia-like gang (this is not an insult, but an accurate description), has returned to considering wars and destruction as fundamental tools in shaping international relations. We have a living example of this madness in Lebanon and the region, and in Europe, there are other examples of the same ilk (and madness has its own logic).
On the 81st anniversary of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, let us begin a new path aimed at ridding the planet of weapons of mass destruction, and let us work to dismantle its logic and its destructive projects. Let us begin working, in our region, to disarm the Zionist colonial entity that occupies Palestine of nuclear weapons… on the path to ending the occupation of Palestine.
